Dungeonfog Alternatives: Faster Battle Maps

Dungeonfog alternatives for faster battle maps

Dungeonfog is a browser-based battle map editor. You place walls, floors and props by hand from its asset library, reuse room and prop templates, and keep campaign notes alongside the maps.

Where Dungeonfog is the better choice

Dungeonfog gives you exact control. Every wall, door and prop is where you put it, and reusable room and prop templates make a series of maps in one consistent style quick to build. If you need a precise floor plan for a heist or a puzzle room, where one misplaced door changes the encounter, a hand-built map from an editor like Dungeonfog is the more reliable choice.

Why people look for an alternative

Building a map by hand takes time, and the free plan keeps only 3 maps and exports them at low resolution with a watermark. Selling or publishing a map needs the separate commercial licence. GMs who are preparing a session the night before often want a finished, good-looking map in a few minutes more than they want pixel-perfect walls.

What Text to Tabletop does differently

  • The map is made from a sentence, so a new location costs a minute of typing rather than an evening of placing assets.
  • Scenes are fully illustrated rather than assembled from a fixed library, so two taverns do not look like the same tavern.
  • Area regeneration gives you some of an editor's control: select the part that is wrong and redo only that.
  • The free tokens have no watermark and no size cap, and every map can be used commercially.

Questions people ask

Does Text to Tabletop give me the control of an editor?

Not the same control. You describe the map rather than place each wall, and you fix a part of it by selecting that area and regenerating it. If every wall has to be exactly where you want it, an editor like Dungeonfog is still ahead.

Is Dungeonfog free?

It has a free plan with 3 map slots and a low resolution, watermarked export. Premium removes those limits, and a separate Commercial licence covers selling what you make.

Which is better for a one-shot tonight?

An AI generator, usually. You can have three or four finished maps in the time it takes to lay out one room by hand, and you can fix a detail with area regeneration if the first result is close but not right.
