Top-down AI-generated city street battle map of a cobblestone crossroads with market stalls, a well, a fountain and tiled rooftops

About the AI City Map Generator

City adventures need maps at street level, not a map of the whole city: the market where the pickpocket runs, the alley where the ambush happens, the rooftops the chase crosses. Those are the maps that are hardest to find, because every street in every campaign is different.

The Text to Tabletop AI city map generator makes battle maps at that scale. Describe the street, square or district (the buildings, the stalls, the carts, the crowd or its absence) and the generator paints it from directly above, with rooftops at the edges and space to fight in the middle.

Every map is locked to a straight-down view with no baked-in grid, so it lines up with the grid in your virtual tabletop. If a stall is in the wrong place or an alley needs to be wider, select that area and regenerate only that part.

Use Cases

  • Market squares: stalls, carts and crowds for pickpockets, riots and public confrontations
  • Back alleys: narrow lanes, stacked crates and dead ends for ambushes and shady deals
  • Rooftop chases: tiled roofs, chimneys and gaps to jump between buildings
  • Docks and waterfronts: warehouses, piers and moored boats for smuggling scenes
  • Noble districts: walled gardens, fountains and manor fronts for heists
  • Slums and shanty towns: tight, ramshackle streets with plenty of places to hide
  • City gates and walls: a gatehouse, guard posts and the queue to get in
  • Temple plazas: a grand stair, statues and open ground in front of a holy building

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the AI City Map Generator.

Does this make maps of a whole city?

No. It makes battle maps: a street, a square, an alley or a dock at the scale your tokens stand on. For a map of a whole city or region, a world map tool is the better choice; this is for the places where the fighting and the chases happen.

How do I get the layout I want?

Describe it. "A crossroads with a well in the center", "a narrow alley between two tall warehouses" or "a canal with one stone bridge across it" all shape the layout. Say where things are and what the players need to move around.

Can I link several city maps together?

Yes. Generate the market, the alley behind it and the rooftops above as separate maps with the same description of the architecture, so the chase moves from one map to the next and the city feels consistent.

Will these maps work in Roll20, Foundry VTT and Owlbear Rodeo?

Yes. Maps come out at 1K, 2K or 4K as standard image files, drawn with no grid lines so your virtual tabletop can lay its own grid over them, and Foundry VTT users can also export a .dd2vtt file. They import into Roll20, Foundry VTT, Owlbear Rodeo and Fantasy Grounds like any other map.

Is there a free trial, and what does it cost after that?

Yes. New accounts get 3 free tokens, enough for three maps at 1K or one at 4K, so you can generate a street and try a second idea before deciding whether to buy. No credit card required. After that, a $1 trial pack is available once per account, then packs from One More Map at 4 tokens for $2, or a Pro Plan at $10 a month for 50 tokens.

Do my tokens expire?

No. Tokens never expire. Whatever you do not use stays on your account, and Pro Plan tokens roll over from month to month instead of resetting, so a quiet month costs you nothing.

Can I edit part of a city map afterwards?

Yes. Select the area you want to change, such as adding a cart to block the road or replacing a stall with a fountain, and regenerate only that area. The rest of the street stays as it was.
