Top-down AI-generated castle great hall battle map with a throne dais, banquet tables, stone pillars and a red carpet

About the AI Castle Map Generator

Castles carry a lot of a campaign: the audience with the king, the assassination at the feast, the siege at the gate. They are also some of the most time-consuming maps to draw, with symmetrical halls, furniture that has to make sense and walls that have to read clearly as walls.

The Text to Tabletop AI castle map generator turns a description of the room into a finished battle map. Describe the space (a throne room, a great hall, a courtyard, a gatehouse, a stretch of wall) and what is in it, and the generator paints it from directly above at battle scale.

Castles are big, so the best results come from one area per map rather than the whole fortress at once. Each map is locked to a straight-down view with no baked-in grid, and any part you want to change can be selected and regenerated on its own.

Use Cases

  • Throne rooms: a raised dais, pillars to hide behind and a long approach that makes every audience tense
  • Great halls: banquet tables, a roaring hearth and a feast that is about to go badly wrong
  • Courtyards: a well, stables, a training yard and gates on two sides for a fight that spills outdoors
  • Gatehouses: a portcullis, murder holes and a narrow passage built for defenders
  • Battlements and wall walks: crenellations, towers and a long drop for siege encounters
  • Castle dungeons: cells, a guard room and a torture chamber below the keep
  • Chapels and crypts: pews, an altar and the tombs of the family that built the place
  • Ruined keeps: collapsed walls, overgrown halls and something that moved in after the owners left

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the AI Castle Map Generator.

What parts of a castle can I generate?

Any room or area you can describe: throne rooms, great halls, kitchens, chapels, libraries, bedchambers, courtyards, gatehouses, wall walks, towers and the dungeons underneath. Ruined, besieged and haunted versions all work too.

Can I generate a whole castle on one map?

You can, but the detail per room drops as the area grows, and a whole castle at battle scale is too big for one encounter anyway. One room or area per map gives cleaner results; describe the stone and style the same way each time so the maps feel like one building.

How do I control the layout of a room?

Say where things are. "A throne on a raised dais at the north end", "two rows of pillars down the length of the hall" and "double doors in the south wall" all shape the layout. The generator follows positions it is given much more reliably than it guesses them.

Will these maps work in Roll20, Foundry VTT and Owlbear Rodeo?

Yes. Maps come out at 1K, 2K or 4K as standard image files, drawn with no grid lines so your virtual tabletop can lay its own grid over them, and Foundry VTT users can also export a .dd2vtt file. They import into Roll20, Foundry VTT, Owlbear Rodeo and Fantasy Grounds like any other map.

Is there a free trial, and what does it cost after that?

Yes. New accounts get 3 free tokens, enough for three maps at 1K or one at 4K, so you can generate a castle hall and try a second idea before deciding whether to buy. No credit card required. After that, a $1 trial pack is available once per account, then packs from One More Map at 4 tokens for $2, or a Pro Plan at $10 a month for 50 tokens.

Do my tokens expire?

No. Tokens never expire. Whatever you do not use stays on your account, and Pro Plan tokens roll over from month to month instead of resetting, so a quiet month costs you nothing.

Can I edit part of a castle map afterwards?

Yes. Select the area you want to change, for example to swap a banquet table for a war table or add a secret door, and regenerate only that area. Everything else stays as it was.
