Perchance map generator alternatives
Perchance is a platform for community-made random generators, and its free AI image generator is one of the most used. It is unlimited, needs no account and offers dozens of art styles. Three of them are maps: Fantasy World Map, Fantasy City Map and Old World Map. None is a battle map.
Where Perchance is the better choice
Perchance costs nothing and has no limit. For a continent map to hand out on session one, an overview of the city the party is walking into, character art or dozens of quick ideas to spark a session, it is a very good place to start, and nothing that charges per image can compete on price.
Why people look for an alternative
Its map styles draw whole worlds and cities, not the room or clearing a fight happens in. Asked for an encounter map, a general image model will often give you a tilted perspective, a scene that does not line up with any grid, or furniture at the wrong scale for 5-foot squares, and there is no export for a virtual tabletop. Commercial use is also less clear than it looks: Perchance's own terms allow it, but some of the models these generators run on carry licences of their own.

- Every map is locked to a straight-down view and aligned to the grid size you choose, so it drops into a VTT without fighting the perspective.
- Output at 1K, 2K or 4K, with a .dd2vtt export for Foundry VTT and other Universal VTT importers.
- Area regeneration fixes one part of a map without rerolling the rest, which a plain image generator cannot do.

Is Perchance free?
Yes. Its generators are free, unlimited and need no account. Text to Tabletop is not free beyond the 3 signup tokens, and it does not pretend to be.
Why does a Perchance map not line up with my VTT grid?
Because a general image model does not know what a grid is. It draws a picture, and the squares in it are whatever size the picture happens to make them. A battle map generator aligns the scene to the grid you ask for.
Can I sell maps I make with Text to Tabletop?
Yes. You own the maps you generate and can use them commercially, including maps made with the free tokens.
