Top-down AI-generated crypt battle map of a burial chamber with a carved sarcophagus on a dais, bone-filled wall niches, candles and a side chamber

About the AI Crypt Map Generator

Crypts are one of the oldest settings in the hobby, and the one that most depends on detail. A tomb is only frightening if the sarcophagus, the wall niches and the thing in the side chamber are exactly where the story needs them, and a stock map rarely puts them there.

The Text to Tabletop AI crypt map generator turns a description into a finished burial chamber. Name the features the encounter is built around (a sarcophagus on a raised dais, rows of bone-filled niches, a collapsed passage, an altar to a forgotten god) and the generator paints them from directly above at battle scale.

Every map is locked to a straight-down view with no baked-in grid, so it lines up with the grid in your virtual tabletop. If the dais should be larger or a wall needs a hidden passage, select that area and regenerate only that part while the rest of the crypt stays as it is.

Use Cases

  • Royal tombs: a sealed burial chamber with a carved sarcophagus, grave goods and a trap on the way in
  • Catacombs: long passages lined with bone-filled niches that branch and dead-end in the dark
  • Ossuaries: walls and pillars built from skulls, with a shrine at the center for the dead who are not resting
  • Family mausoleums: a small stone building in a graveyard with stairs down to the vault below
  • Vampire lairs: a coffin on a dais, heavy curtains and a crypt that is kept rather too clean
  • Lich and necromancer sanctums: a ritual circle on the floor, an altar and rows of standing dead
  • Forgotten temple crypts: the undercroft of an old church with its founders buried beneath the altar
  • Halloween one-shots: candles, cobwebs and a single sarcophagus that is not as empty as it should be

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the AI Crypt Map Generator.

What kinds of crypt maps can I make?

Any tomb you can describe: burial chambers, catacombs, ossuaries, mausoleum vaults, church undercrofts, pharaoh tombs and lich sanctums. Name the stone, the burials, the light and the feature the encounter turns on, and the generator draws it.

How do I get sarcophagi, niches and traps where I want them?

Put them in the prompt with a position. "A stone sarcophagus on a raised dais in the center", "wall niches holding bones along both long walls" or "a narrow corridor with pressure plates leading to the main chamber" all work, and the more specific the placement, the more reliably it appears there.

Can I make a crypt that runs across several maps?

Yes. Generate each chamber as its own map with the same description of the stonework and the lighting, so the rooms feel like one tomb. Separate maps also let you reveal the crypt to players one chamber at a time.

Will these maps work in Roll20, Foundry VTT and Owlbear Rodeo?

Yes. Maps come out at 1K, 2K or 4K as standard image files, drawn with no grid lines so your virtual tabletop can lay its own grid over them, and Foundry VTT users can also export a .dd2vtt file. They import into Roll20, Foundry VTT, Owlbear Rodeo and Fantasy Grounds like any other map.

Is there a free trial, and what does it cost after that?

Yes. New accounts get 3 free tokens, enough for three maps at 1K or one at 4K, so you can generate a burial chamber and try a second idea before deciding whether to buy. No credit card required. After that, a $1 trial pack is available once per account, then packs from One More Map at 4 tokens for $2, or a Pro Plan at $10 a month for 50 tokens.

Do my tokens expire?

No. Tokens never expire. Whatever you do not use stays on your account, and Pro Plan tokens roll over from month to month instead of resetting, so a quiet month costs you nothing.

Can I change part of a crypt map after it is generated?

Yes. Select the area you want to change, for example to open a sarcophagus or add a collapsed passage, and regenerate just that area. The rest of the crypt stays exactly as it was.
